Establishment of the Working Group for the drafting of the clinical protocol for Prophylaxis before HIV infection (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis – PrEP)

Today, from the Ministry of Health, we have received the official notification for the establishment of the Working Group for the drafting of the clinical protocol for Prophylaxis before infection with HIV (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis – PrEP), this group was established by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health.
Commitments for Kosovo to have PrEP available started a long time ago:
– In 2017, CSGD started advocacy activities with donors and MOH to regulate the issue of PrEP, which will be offered free of charge by MOH with a focus on the LGBTIQ+ population as prevention from HIV infection.
– In the years 2018-2019, several researches and evaluations of the needs of LGBTIQ+ persons for the services that are offered were done and, in addition to other needs, PrEP is one of the necessary services that must be regulated.
– since that time, CSGD has had numerous meetings with the relevant actors. In addition to representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Infectious Disease Clinic, CSGD has coordinated advocacy activities together with Community Development Fund – CDF, Integra and Kosovo Association for People living with HIV AIDS
We thank all the actors who contributed and continue to contribute to enable the uptake of PrEP for LGBTIQ+ people.
