PrEP

After a long period of advocacy and engagement by CSGD, as of June 12, 2024, free PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is now being offered at the Infectious Disease Clinic of QKUK. PrEP is a preventative treatment that reduces the risk of HIV infection in cases of exposure to the virus.

PrEP, a significant advancement in HIV prevention, involves taking a daily pill that has been proven highly effective in preventing HIV transmission. This treatment is particularly important for individuals at higher risk of HIV exposure, such as those with HIV-positive partners, people who engage in unprotected sex, or those who use injectable drugs. The availability of PrEP at no cost is a major step forward in public health and offers a critical tool for reducing new HIV infections in Kosovo.

CSGD’s relentless efforts in advocacy and partnership with healthcare providers have made this life-saving service accessible to everyone who needs it. By providing PrEP for free, CSGD and the healthcare community are taking proactive steps to ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, has access to essential preventive care.
